The 23-year-old actor, who hit the red carpet at the Golden Globes in Calvin Klein over the weekend, recently confirmed rumors that he’d be starring in Garry Marshall’s New Year’s Eve.

On her character, Lindy Owens: “Our version is very posh and sleek and very sophisticated. It’s supposed to be in an extremely wealthy school, so Lindy definitely stands out from everyone else. He slowly starts to follow her, and she kinds of takes refuge with him and they just slowly fall for each other, because he ends up having a great soul and kind of wins her over from the sweet things he does for her.”
On bonding with director Daniel Barnz: “Yeah, I’m in love with Daniel. I think he’s such an incredible director. He’s helped so much in character involvement and just kind of figuring out mannerisms to play with my character and a way of speech and just truly developing the character to the fullest. He’s so smart.”
On filming the stunt scenes: “(laughs) I’ve had one stunt already, which was quite frightening ’cause I’m afraid of heights, and I had to climb up a ladder, hold onto something upside down, they rigged me and I was literally hanging upside down on a pole, and then they would let the latch go, and they’d count ‘3,2,1′ and then I’d let go and fall into Alex’s arms.”

We’re less than two months away from Vanessa Hudgens‘ upcoming movie, Beastly!
The 22-year-old actress chatted with J-14 mag about seeing costar Alex Pettyfer’s beast for the first time. She shared, “It was weird. It was so weird. I was used to his long blonde hair and then it was all gone and it was like, ‘Oh, hi!’ It was like meeting a person all over again for the first time. He really embraced the character and transformed the way he carried himself.”
Vanessa added about why she took the role of Lindy: “I definitely challenged myself and it was surprisingly harder than I thought it would be playing out all my awkward moments. I wasn’t particularly an awkward kid, I was more of a shy kid, so playing with that was a lot of fun. It was a blast.”

Star Jena Malone chatted with Nylon mag about the film’s action-packed nature.
She shared, “It’s the most amazing film I’ve ever had the chance to work on. I’ve never been asked to do so much before. Not only do I get to play a deep character, but also multiple different characters. I had to learn pole dancing and train with Navy Seals for eight months. Nobody in the world had ever taken a look at me and said, ‘I believe Jena can fight forty men and win.’ But they instilled this belief in me!”
Jena also added that the five girls are closer than ever now. “They’re awesome. All of them. We were in the trenches together. I’d take a bullet for them. We’re sisters now.”

Kelsi Nielsen (Olesya Rulin) is a student at East High. She is a pianist and composer.
Zeke Baylor (Chris Warren Jr.) is friends with Troy and Chad, and plays for the basketball team. He also enjoys baking.
Jason Cross (Ryne Sanborn) is friends with Troy and Chad, and plays for the basketball team. He also tends to ask silly questions in class.

The soundtrack was released on January 10, 2006 and debuted at number 133 on the Billboard 200, selling 7,469 copies in its first week. The DVD of the film was released on May 23, 2006 under the title, High School Musical: Encore Edition. It created a sales record when 1.2 million copies were sold in its first six days, making it the fastest-selling television film of all time.^[14] It is, however, the second DCOM (Disney Channel Original Movie) on DVD to be certified Platinum in DVD sales, the first being The Cheetah Girls. The High School MusicalDVD was also released in Australia on July 12, 2006 through Walt Disney and was released on European Region 2 on December 4, 2006 where it went on to reach number one in the UK DVD charts. It was also shown on Disney Channel South Africa, the latest Disney channel at that time in the southern hemisphere. It was the top selling DVD in Australia in August 2006. In addition, the Region 3 DVD was released on October 10 in Hong Kong. It also released in Taiwan on December 15, 2006. This is the first Region 3 DCOM DVD ever released. It was released in Mexico on November 10 and in Brazil on December 6 to coincide with Christmas and the Globo broadcast of the film.

The Remix Edition, a 2-disc Special Edition, was released on December 5, 2006.^[15] The Remix DVD was released in France on June 20, 2007.^[16] and in Germany on September 13, 2007.^[17] The Remix DVD was released in the UK on September 10, 2007.^[18]

Despite being filmed in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, both the original and Remix Edition DVD releases featured a 1.33:1 "full screen" version (though not pan and scan as the camera stays directly in the center of the image), the format of the film as shown on the Disney Channel. The widescreen, high definition version is available exclusively on Disney Blu-ray in North America and has subsequently been showing in the UK on BBC One, BBC Two, and BBC HD.^[19] The HD version is also available on Xbox Live Marketplace for the US market.^[20]

On April 8, 2008, Disney Channel Worldwide President Rich Ross stated that script was being written for the fourth installment of High School Musical.^[25] The filming will be done by choreographer and director Jeffrey Hornaday and will debut on Disney Channel in 2010. Casting is underway for the fourth installment, which is set against the cross-town school rivalry between the East High Wildcats and West High Knights.^[26]

On March 31, 2010, it was announced that Ashley Tisdale would reprise her role as Sharpay Evans in a spin-off film, Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure. This was later renamed as High Stakes.^[27] The film will focus on Sharpay moving to New York City to follow her dreams of being on Broadway.^[28] Filming began in June 2010 in Toronto.^[29] The film will premiere on Disney Channel in the summer of 2011.^[28]

The "High School Musical: The Concert" tour started on November 29, 2006 kicking off in San Diego, California. The tour continued until January 28, 2007 performing in major cities around the United States, Canada and Latin America. The concert featured all of the original cast members except for Zac Efron, who was shooting Hairspray. Efron was replaced by Drew Seeley (whose voice was blended with Efron's during the film). The concert featured the original songs from the film, as well as songs from Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, and Corbin Bleu.

Ice tour

"Feld Entertainment" produced global tour titled, High School Musical: The Ice Tour which had its world premiere in New York city on September 29, 2007.^[32] The cast included 2004 World Junior Bronze Medalist Jordan Brauninger and 2004–2005 Australian national champion Bradley Santer. The show contained elements and songs from both the original film and its sequel, High School Musical 2 and featured a special preview of High School Musical 3: Senior Year when the movie of the same name premiered in theaters.

This novel hit number one on the New York Times best-selling list and remained on the list for sixteen weeks.^[33] As of August 2007, the novel has sold more than 4.5 million copies, with 1 million copies of the novel's follow-up, High School Musical 2: The Junior Novel, being shipped to American retailers.^[33] "High School Musical 3: Senior Year: The Junior Novel" came out on September 23, 2008. During July and August 2008, ABC broadcast a reality competition based on the series, High School Musical: Get in the Picture ^[34] hosted by Nick Lachey. The winner of the show appeared in a music video during the credits of High School Musical 3.^[35] The series premiered to poor ratings, with the show coming in fourth place in its timeslot.^[36] In the UK, a reality show titled Hairspray: The School Musical premiered in 2008 on Sky1. It saw a team of vocal coaches, acting coaches and choreographers hold auditions at a regular comprehensive schoolwhere a mix of students could audition for a West End production of the hit Broadway musical, Hairspray. Although the musical being performed was not High School Musical, the film was the inspiration behind the show. The show was presented by Denise Van Outen and was credited, along with High School Musical, for inspiring a generation of children in the UK to get into theatrical work.

One of the low points of young Vanessa Hudgens career was when privately taken nude photographs of Hudgens appeared on the Internet in September 2007. Many of her fans were shocked because the photographs were the opposite of her High School Musical image. In a strategic move to repair the damage to her image Hudgens quickly released a statement to the public apologizing. Stating that "She was embarrassed by the situation. And regretted having taken the photographs."

Vanessa's favorite scene in High School Musical (2006) is the final scene in which the High School Musical cast sings and dances to "We're All In This Together".
